Lions Quest and Equity in Education
According to CASEL (Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning) SEL advances educational equity and excellence through authentic school-family-community partnerships to establish learning environments and experiences that feature trusting and collaborative relationships, rigorous and meaningful curriculum and instruction, and ongoing evaluation.
Through our work, funded in part by Lions Clubs International Foundation and the NoVo Foundation, Lions Quest has made important strides in helping schools and communities embrace social and emotional learning as an approach to strengthen programs and initiatives that promote positive youth development.
Using SEL to help address various forms of inequity and empower young people and adults to co-create thriving schools and contribute to safe, healthy, and just communities, we provide technical support to help schools connect with peers, community-based organizations, and behavioral health care providers to improve access to culturally relevant professional development for teachers and administrators as well as strength-based student supports that can be accessed in school and in the community.
As stated by CASEL – SEL can be a lever for advancing equity in education. In the Lions Quest program diversity is viewed as an asset. Lions Quest is designed to create a learning environment based on the needs of all students in an environment in which no one is an outsider because everyone is needed, valued, and important.
